Chinese Steamed Egg

 

Chinese Steamed Egg (also known as Chinese Steamed Egg Custard) is a healthy easy meals. This is an easy recipe that takes 15 minutes to make silky smooth eggs. Using steamer pot you might need cover the lid to prevent water droplets from forming on the lid and dripping down on the eggs and make sure the steam is circulating around the food.


INGREDIENTS

2 medium eggs

1/2 - 3/4 cups water or chicken stock (approximately the same with the volume of your eggs) 

A pinch of salt (optional)

A drop of soy sauce (optional)

Salmon fillet, slices (optional but will add creaminess)


FOR TOPPING

green onion, chopped

cooked vegetables, diced small


INSTRUCTIONS

1. In a medium bowl, lightly beat the eggs together with a fork.  

2. The amount of water or stock you will want is between 1 to 1 ratio the volume of the eggs.

3. Slowly mix the water in with the eggs. Mix in salt and soy sauce if using. 

4. Carefully arrange the salmon on then bottom of your ramekin then slowly pour the eggs through a fine mesh strainer, the strainer will break any bubbles or foam that may have formed. 

5. Cover the pan lid with towel to prevent any water droplets from the steamer from falling directly onto the eggs coz it will making the surface of the steamed eggs rough. 

6. Gently place the bowl onto a prepared steamer. Steam over low heat until the eggs are set, about 10-15 minutes, depending on your bowl shape and depth.  

7. Carefully remove from steamer and garnish with desired toppings. Serve warm.
